Who is Andreas Gmür / AndyG
Born to Swiss-German parents in Switzerland and raised in Brazil and Colombia, Andreas Gmür is a fine artist whose work is shaped by a lifelong immersion in diverse cultures, nature, and spiritual exploration. Today, he lives on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast with his shaman artist healer wife and their two children. AndyG is his apparel label, bringing elements of Andreas’s original artwork and creative vision into wearable art.
Academic and professional background
Andreas holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Boston University, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the Art Institute of Boston, and a Master’s degree in Management (Extension Studies) from Harvard University. While studying at Boston University, he founded an advertising boutique and launched several fashion labels under the AndyG trademark, which he operated for many years. In 2012, Andreas transitioned into the corporate world as a Global Marketing & Communications Manager for a global technology company, before leaving to pursue his lifelong passion for surfing, art, and a holistic lifestyle on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast.
Mystical / spiritual background
A few profound, life-changing spontaneous mystical experiences (while completely sober) led Andreas toward a deeper spiritual awareness. He came to feel that every human being carries within a seed of higher consciousness—a longing to reconnect with the greater Cosmic Consciousness from which humanity originates.
This insight became central to both Andreas's life and his art. He believes that spiritual practices and inner work can help people move beyond the distractions and stresses of everyday life and reconnect with their deeper nature.
Andreas's art explores the relationship between Cosmic Energy and humanity's spiritual potential. Over time, his work has evolved from literal spiritual symbolism toward abstraction. This represents a shift from reading an artwork to experiencing it. He believes the spiritual dimension is something to be felt rather than intellectually understood.
Andreas's recent paintings combine delicate layers of translucent oil paint with spontaneous, energetic gestures. Through this interplay of ethereal depth and explosive movement, he seeks to express the mysterious and powerful energy that he experiences as underlying all existence.
For Andreas, art is a language of consciousness. His ultimate intention is to create paintings that do more than communicate an idea—to create an experience that awakens something within the viewer: a sense of connection, wonder, and perhaps a desire for spiritual awakening.
